As I continue my 1st grade teaching adventure... I thought it was time to stop and reflect on the technology that I have embedded so far.
1. Evernote - WOW! I've used this almost daily during reading and writing workshop to take notes while conferring with students. I love the ability to take a photo or do a voice recording. It is priceless to be able to see or hear a student reading. Evernote
2. KidBlog - We have begun to blog every Monday about our weekend. At first I was concerned about the log-in process but overall it has gone smoothly. Our next adventure will include making "Todd Parr like" illustrations on Pixie and posting them on KidBlog. Kidblog
3. iFlip Video Camera - This tool has given the families of my students the opportunity to be "in class" while they are at work. I've posted 19 short videos using the FlipShare software. I love how you can create a private channel. Many parents have told me how much they enjoy these short videos. Flipshare
4. 1st Grade WebPage - I've worked hard to keep our 1st grade webpage updated and entertaining for parents, but I realized that it is very helpful to my students as well. I post links to webpages we access often and that makes it easy for students to get to: Raz-Kids, Starfall and other great web resources. Here is the link to our page: 1st Grade Teachers - Little Elementary
5. Storybird - This weekend I've begun to explore Storybird. I hope to build this into our writing workshop as a tool for students to publish with. Storybird
All this and it is ONLY the beginning of November. I can't imagine what we will be doing in May! Thanks to the DEN and my Twitter PLN for all the support. I couldn't do this without you!!
:) Deanna Duray
You're off to a FABULOUS start!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see you sharing what you are doing with the parents of your students.
And you are right. What WILL you be doing by May.
I can't wait to see what you do with the 2nd quarter!
ReplyDeleteI have only used Evernote a few times, and I think I need to explore this tool. I didn't know you could record using it. Thanks for the tips.
I also love kidblog and so do my 2nd graders. I read a few of your student's kidblog posts and am impressed with what they have written!
Great Work Ms. Duray!
Thank you both for the comments! It has been and continues to be a grand adventure for me (I moved from 5th to 1st) to embed technology with 1st graders!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! The Evernote idea is great! I'm going to have to use that one with my fifth graders as a way for them to store notes and for me to keep notes when I'm not using Google Docs. Have fun with the Flip! Your kids and their families will love it!
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing Deanna. Thanks for being an inspiration. I hate when primary teachers tell me they can't use technology. We should have you teaching some of the seminars we go to inspire them to use it too.
ReplyDeleteSo many great ideas here! You definitely use some of my favourite tools. I'd love to try out flip video cameras this year. Think I may have to borrow one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing what you're doing!
